Joachim Arp // Specialist for Occupational Pension Schemes and Risk Insurance
In our “Meet Our Experts” series, we regularly introduce you to specialists from across the Delvag Group. This time, we’re speaking with Joachim Arp, expert for occupational pension schemes and risk insurance. Joachim has been part of the Albatros employee benefits team since 2025. In this interview, he shares insights his responsibilities and the core products we manage as a broker on behalf of employers.
Joachim, you joined Albatros in August 2025 as an Specialist for Occupational Pension Schemes and Risk Insurance. What are your responsibilities?
A key focus of my role is the continuous optimization our already efficient processes. We review each individual process and seek to digitalize it even further. Based on my experience from previous roles, I’m able to support the team very effectively in this area. We invest specifically in our administration system to enable a simple and efficient exchange of information for employers.
Additionally, I analyze and assess both major and minor operational challenges that arise in our day to day business. My goal is to develop solutions and translate them into clear work instructions. I’m also involved in consulting and supporting the onboarding of new clients and help more employers provide their employees with an employer funded occupational pension schemes.
What makes occupational pension schemes so exciting for you?
I am helping people to secure their future. I consider employer-financed occupational pensions to be an incredibly important asset in the competition for good employees. Employers can demonstrate: We care about our employees and want to offer benefits that support their long term satisfaction and retention.
Additionally, I’m happy to get to know new topics such as flight duty disability insurance and Loss of License (LOL). Before joining Albatros, I had no previous experience with these specialized areas.
I also find matching models particularly compelling. They offer a powerful incentive for employees to engage with retirement planning. Under these models, employers contribute an additional amount when employees make their own pension contributions.
Which core products do you manage in national pension management, and what sets your service apart?
Our core products include the Versorgungskasse Kabine and the Albatros Unterstützungskasse – employer support funds. These are special products for German market. We administer both throughout their full lifecycle – from enrollment to retirement. More than 20,000 flight attendants from the Lufthansa Group and beyond are insured through the Versorgungskasse Kabine. What makes the Albatros Unterstützungskasse unique is that it is our own company pension fund. We manage 20 internal and external sponsoring companies—employers who provide benefits to their staff through us with more than 4,000 eligible beneficiaries.
In addition, we administer 11,000 reinsured direct commitments (deferred compensation) from over 40 employers. And as already mentioned, we manage the accident insurance coverage for the entire Lufthansa Group with more than 100,000 contracts. We also administer Loss of Licence insurance for cockpit crews and flight duty disability insurance for flying personnel.
What distinguishes Albatros as a broker, and how do you differ from other brokers?
Our key differentiator lies in our many years of specialization in the the aviation industry and our deep expertise in products like flight duty disability insurance and Loss of License. Our close connection to the Lufthansa Group gives us a profound understanding of the requirements of large employee groups, enabling us to provide precisely tailored solutions. At the same time, we propose customized and exclusive conditions that are rarely found elsewhere in the market.
Does your team focus solely on contracts within the Lufthansa Group, or do you also serve other companies?
Our roots are in aviation, and our largest client as well as our parent company is the Lufthansa Group. However, we are absolutely open to employers in all industries. We have already demonstrated through the management of large collectives that we can deliver excellent service and real added value for external clients as well.
Thank you very much for the interview, Joachim.
